I Reframed the Problem
What I was asked to solve: Merge multi-vendor checkout steps into a single payment.
The checkout button wasn't the problem. It was covering for 3 things the flow was not doing on its own. Merging payment without fixing transparency would've traded customer support tickets for a broken funnel.
Reframed Problem Statement
Removing separate checkouts means the single enrollment/checkout flow has to do the individual vendor's job. Right now it can't. It doesn't break down split delivery, doesn't confirm independent vendor timelines, and doesn't protect payments in escrow.
New Goal
Build a transparent, self-serve multi-vendor checkout that replaces fragmented merchant orders — not just merges them. This included:
Split-Cart Itemization
Clear itemized breakdown of products, independent merchant shipping fees, and taxes upfront.
Escrow Payment Protection
Automated payment recovery, escrow fund safety, and instant multi-vendor order routing.
Multi-Parcel Tracking
Single unified timeline tracking independent dispatches, courier hand-offs, and estimated delivery dates.
The goal was vague, so I did my own Research
The ask was "fix checkout drop-offs" without understanding why shoppers abandoned their carts after entering billing details.
So before designing anything, I talked to merchants and active shoppers. My question was simple:
“What issues do users face on similar platforms, and how can a familiar layout make LawTribe easy to adapt?”
I interviewed 12 active multi-vendor shoppers and 6 high-volume merchants. All of them described the same 3 breakdowns:
Hidden Split Shipping
Shoppers felt blindsided when shipping surged at the last step because items came from multiple independent warehouses.
Payment Timeout Anxiety
When OTP or 3D Secure lagged, money was deducted without an instant confirmation screen, triggering severe panic.
Fragmented Delivery Tracking
Disjointed dispatch timelines left buyers confused about which package was arriving when and from whom.
I also reviewed 40+ recorded checkout abandonment sessions that backed up all 3 friction points.
Conducted 10 unmoderated usability sessions with eligible shoppers, testing end-to-end multi-seller purchases. The study revealed the exact questions and confusions users had during the session.
I use LinkedIn every day, but I can never tell if an attorney’s credentials are real or if they are just self-proclaimed experts.
I don’t have time to learn a complicated new tool. If it looks and feels like the platforms I already know, I’ll adopt it immediately.
Generic feeds are flooded with irrelevant noise. I need a dedicated feed for Supreme Court rulings, regulatory amendments, and precedents.
Clients reach out across WhatsApp, email, and social networks. I desperately need a single professional channel for consultation requests.
Categorizing my network into Mentors, Peers, and Law Firms makes finding specialized co-counsel ten times faster.
The interface needs to feel authoritative, clean, and immediately familiar so our senior partners feel comfortable using it.

Conducted in-depth interviews with 24+ legal practitioners using similar platforms (LinkedIn, legal portals) to pinpoint user friction in a greenfield 0-to-1 project.
Problem Definition
Synthesized core practitioner pain points: unverified credentials, noisy generic feeds, and steep learning curves. Set design principle of familiar layout for rapid adoption.
